The rebranding campaign will cost Upstate nearly $1 million over two years.

The new Upstate University Health System name serves as an umbrella term for its many parts such as University Hospital, its medical school, nursing school and other. Upstate’s name has changed eight times since the institution was founded in 1834.

Lewis Communications, an out-of-state ad agency with expertise in health care, developed the new name and launched the branding campaign. The agency also came up with a new tagline for Upstate: “Knowing Changes Everything.”
